House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers today commended the House of Representatives for its swift passage of Ukraine aid legislation (H.R. 4152). The bill, sponsored by Chairman Rogers and Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Nita Lowey, was approved on a vote of 385-23.
“Ukraine is a valued friend and partner of this nation. The House today demonstrated our faith in that friendship and in Ukraine’s push toward reform by extending vital assistance,” Chairman Rogers said. “As Ukraine fights for democracy and against authoritarian rule, it will continue to face uncharted territory and real economic risks. These loan guarantees are an important first step for the country to strengthen its finances, begin to make its economy more efficient, and help successfully navigate this transition.”
H.R. 4152 will allow funds to be used to guarantee loans for the government of Ukraine, in support of the Secretary of State’s $1 billion pledge made earlier this week. The bill does not appropriate new funds, but allows funds to be used from within existing State Department resources.
The bill will now go to the Senate for consideration.
