Norm Dicks' Statement on the FY12 Agriculture Appropriations Bill
At a time when only 1 out of every 5 applicants can get a job, many Americans need help getting by. This bill slashes funding for WIC and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, leaving more people to fend for themselves during the worst recession since the Great Depression. Our economy is showing positive signs of improvement, but with unemployment still hovering at 9%, its certainly no time to be pulling the rug out from underneath folks who can least afford it.

I am deeply troubled by some of the funding decisions contained in this bill. The two worst examples are the decimating of funding for almost every FEMA grant program and the cutting of research funding for the Science and Technology Directorate by more than half.

Norm Dicks’ Statement Concerning Republican FY 2012 Allocations
Rather than presenting a reasonable budget that continues the momentum of our economic recovery, the Republicans have decided to double-down on their bogus economic theory called 'cut and grow.' Its clear from what were seeing in the economy that if these cuts were enacted, they would lead to a severe setback for economic growth by shedding more government jobs and further depressing state and local government spending.
