WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) released the following statement after President Trump signed H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act:

“The Families First Coronavirus Response Act will help our nation’s working families during this time of crisis.

“The legislation provides necessary support to meet urgent public health needs and help Americans affected by the coronavirus pandemic, including free testing, paid leave, and expanded food aid. Critically, it makes sure that children who depend on free and reduced-priced meals have access to food during school and childcare closures.

“While this legislation is crucial, the severity of the pandemic our country faces demands further action. The Appropriations Committee is working as we speak on a third package to build on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and our $8.3 billion emergency supplemental. We will provide every resource necessary for a robust federal response that confronts this public health emergency and put Families First.”
