Joyce, Cole at FY25 Financial Services and General Government Bill Subcommittee Markup

June 5, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee met to consider its Fiscal Year 2025 bill. The measure was approved by the Subcommittee.

Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee Chairman Dave Joyce (R-OH) began the markup with the following remarks, “As Chairman of this Subcommittee, I have worked diligently to ensure this bill provides the resources necessary to protect the integrity of our financial and judicial systems. At the same time, this bill reins in wasteful spending and takes steps to prevent agencies like the IRS from unfairly targeting hardworking Americans...

"The bill promotes the safety of the American people by enhancing drug interdiction activities and combatting fentanyl and other opioid overdoses. It also prioritizes economic growth and limited government by pushing back on the Administration’s overbearing and costly agenda. It rolls back the Administration’s environment, social, and governance agenda by prohibiting funds for the Securities and Exchange Commission’s climate disclosure rule and prohibits agencies from funding climate change initiatives. And in an effort to increase oversight and fiscal responsibility, the bill brings the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under the appropriations process."

Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) delivered the following remarks during the markup, "Today’s bill protects taxpayers and responsibly addresses the needs of the nation. It reduces spending from the previous fiscal year, ensuring we meet funding levels prescribed in law.

"It provides sensible cuts to federal financial and consumer protection agencies and prohibits funding for their overreaching, harmful, regulatory policies. Further, the bill brings the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau into the appropriations and oversight process.

"The legislation focuses agencies on their core missions. It prevents President Biden from imposing a radical progressive agenda on the American people, defunding DEI and climate initiatives, and ensuring that proposed rules on these topics cannot be finalized. The continued security of our federal elections is also promoted by prohibiting non-citizens from voting."
