The House Appropriations Committee is currently accepting applications.
Thank you for your interest in the House Appropriations Committee internship program. We are currently seeking reliable, professional individuals with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
The Appropriations Committee is responsible for reviewing the federal budget request, conducting oversight of taxpayer dollars, and setting funding levels for all discretionary government programs. An internship with the Committee provides individuals with a unique opportunity to learn about the legislative process – particularly the appropriations process – and experience, firsthand, the operations of the Committee that holds the “power of the purse.”
As an intern with the Committee, examples of potential duties include:
- Research assignments within the Committee’s jurisdiction
- Prepare for Committee hearings and markups
- Draft or edit documents (e.g. letters, memos, statements)
- Provide general administrative support
- Other duties as assigned
Eligibility Requirements:
- To participate in the internship program, participants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years or older before the first day of the program and have at least one year of undergraduate coursework completed.
- Internships are in person, and are in Washington, DC on the U.S. Capitol campus.
Key Dates:
Full and part-time positions are available throughout the year. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Internship term dates are flexible, and the Committee will consider school schedules when coordinating dates with candidates who receive an offer.
Interns on the Appropriations Committee are compensated in accordance with the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. Part-time interns will receive prorated compensation.
