Chairman Rogers Statement on the President’s Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Request

February 2, 2015

House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers today issued the following statement on the release of the President's Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Request.

"As he did in his budget request last year, the President is asking for billions in additional spending without any realistic way of paying for it. The White House knows that its proposed tax increases and other budget gimmicks will never be enacted into law, and it is playing an irresponsible shell game with the federal budget.

"We need a real budget, one that allows responsible investments in critical federal programs – including our national defense – without breaking the bank and pushing our country further into deficits and debt. We need a proposal that stops ignoring sky-rocketing mandatory spending – or worse, adding to such spending. It is imperative that Congress use its constitutionally mandated ‘power of the purse' to reject this irresponsible budget plan.

"As always, despite the President's huge wish list of additional spending, the Appropriations Committee will take a very close look at the President's request, conduct vigorous oversight over federal agencies, and go line-by-line to make decisions that are justified and that use each and every tax dollar wisely and appropriately."
