Cole Statement on President Trump's FY27 Budget Request
Washington, D.C. – Today, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) released the following statement on President Trump’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2027:
“With the partnership of President Trump, we enacted eleven full-year appropriations bills into law. We marked an end of the Democrat-era of pork-filled omnibuses of the past and reshaped government to be disciplined, transparent, and accountable to the American people. This vision continues in FY27. The pillars of the budget are priorities we share – bolstering our nation’s defense, stopping violent crime and bad actors, securing the homeland, building opportunity for the future, and delivering effective investments that benefit the nation. Line by line, we are directed by asking one question: does this put America first? Republican Appropriators will continue to uphold our Article I responsibility – directing taxpayer dollars where they are needed most and ensuring they are spent wisely. We are not waiting – hearings are underway, and markups will move this work forward in the weeks ahead. President Trump has always charted a course defined by strength and clarity of purpose – and we look forward to reinforcing that direction through the appropriations process.”
Background:
- For Fiscal Year 2026, House Republicans successfully returned to regular order, delivering eleven full-year appropriations bills to President Trump's desk – a vital advancement of regular order.
- This approach upheld the constitutional role of Congress under Article I, reestablished a transparent, disciplined appropriations process, and delivered real results for the American people.
- Thanks to conservative leadership, the Democrat tradition of a rushed and massive end-of-the-year omnibus ceased to exist.
- The enacted FY26 bills contain no poison pills. They also preserved longstanding, commonsense provisions – including protections for unborn life, relief for livestock haulers from burdensome regulations, and safeguards to prevent illegal aliens from receiving housing assistance.
- These measures were achieved while prioritizing fiscal discipline to end wasteful spending and deliver meaningful results for taxpayers.
- Just as importantly, these full-year bills dismantled Biden-era priorities – replacing woke, liberal provisions with priorities aligned with an America First agenda.
- By completing full-year appropriations, Republicans ensured agencies have the certainty needed to plan, execute, and deliver on priorities aligned with the Trump Administration and the America First agenda.
- In reflection of President Trump's agenda, responsible funding decisions that target resources where they're needed most and keep our nation safe and secure will continue in FY27.
