Cole Statement on Retirement of Homeland Security Cardinal Mark Amodei
Washington, D.C. – Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) issued the following statement after Homeland Security Subcommittee Chairman Mark Amodei (R-NV) announced he will not seek reelection: Chairman Cole said, “Mark Amodei carries Nevada’s voice in the House with clarity and conviction. He’s always approached public service as it should be done – by respecting the institution, doing the work, and never losing sight of those he served.
“On the Appropriations Committee and as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, Mark applied those same principles to some of the most consequential funding and oversight responsibilities Congress holds. Our dais is stronger because of his leadership and stewardship.
“You can always count on him to bring what the situation demands – sometimes that means firm policy judgment, and other times, a well-timed sarcastic quip. His command of a joke matched by his duty to the appropriations process. You never have to guess where he stands – he’ll tell you straight. Having candor that doesn’t soften for the room is rare in a town of politicians.
“While his retirement lies ahead, there is still important work to be done with him at the table. Congress is better for his service, and I wish my colleague, fellow Appropriator, and friend all the best.”
