Cole: "Strong. Prosperous. Respected. That is the America we are building."
Washington, D.C. – Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) released the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump's State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress and the American people:
“Tonight, President Trump delivered a powerful and forward-looking speech. American exceptionalism is not just an idea – it is the discipline to lead by the people, govern for the people, and defend the people with strength and conviction.
“Our nation’s future has always been rooted in facing our challenges, and our Commander in Chief has never shied from them. Thanks to strong direction in the White House, we’ve forged a renewed path forward in the last year.
“A once wide open border is now secure.
“Rampant crime and disorder are turning into safer communities.
“Years of inflation and stagnation are being replaced with renewed growth and a resurgent economy.
“Weakness on the world stage has been transformed into decisive leadership.
“And an American dream that once felt distant is rising again.
“Strong. Prosperous. Respected. That is the America we are building. We are reminded not only of the 250 years behind us, but the next 250 that lie ahead.
“We are stewards of a legacy far greater than ourselves. The responsibility to preserve liberty, expand opportunity, and protect our nation does not rest on rhetoric – it rests on action. And that work is well underway. I look forward to continuing to build on President Trump’s bold agenda and implementing the mandate of the people through fiscal discipline, responsible funding decisions, and oversight that safeguards taxpayer dollars.
“I also hope tonight’s focus on America reminds Democrats that protecting our homeland and communities is a shared responsibility – one that demands cooperation, not shutdown standoffs. Senate Democrats should act now to pass bipartisan, bicameral DHS funding and give TSA officers, Secret Service agents, Coast Guard servicemembers, and other critical personnel the certainty they need to carry out their missions.”
