Granger Applauds President Trump’s Compromise Plan
House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX) released the following statement today in response to a compromise proposal put forward by President Trump to secure the border and reopen the government.
“Today, President Trump put forward a reasonable compromise proposal that provides something for both sides: funding for border security and protections for Dreamers. After participating in a briefing by the Administration for more than an hour, I am more convinced than ever that this is a necessary and credible path forward that will allow us to reopen the government and secure our border. Sadly, Democrats rejected this plan before they even heard the details. Democrats also rejected a plan – which I introduced earlier this week – that would have allowed federal employees to immediately receive the pay they have earned.
“This shutdown has caused real world consequences for federal employees who have bills to pay and families to support. The continued refusal of Democrats to come to the negotiating table only further harms these federal employees. This shameful gamesmanship must stop. I call on my friends on the other side of the aisle to get serious about working with us to secure our border, end this shutdown, and pay our federal employees.”
