Granger Concerned about Path Forward for FY21 Appropriations Bills

Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today, the subcommittees on State and Foreign Operations; Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Food and Drug Administration; and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs met to consider their appropriations bills for fiscal year 2021. The measures were reported out to the full committee with concerns raised by Republicans.

Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX), the lead Republican for the Appropriations Committee, said of the measures, "Unfortunately, we are only on our first day of subcommittee markups, and I already have serious concerns about our path forward. These appropriations bills are full of controversial language and questionable funding priorities.

“These bills would overturn policies that protect life, roll back critical oversight measures on international organizations such as the World Health Organization, put unacceptable conditions on funding for certain military bases, stop funds from being used to secure our borders, and prevent much-needed reforms and organizational changes.

“These bills also spend billions of dollars on top of what the current budget agreement allows. Being fiscally responsible requires reviewing what is really needed and making difficult choices. We should not reverse course on the bipartisan, bicameral agreement that was made last year with the President, just to spend money on lower priority programs.

“The American people expect Congress to do more than just waste time working on partisan bills that will never become law. I hope we can work together to fix these bills as the process moves forward.”
