Granger on Democrats’ Border Emergency Supplemental
WASHINGTON – Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) issued the following statement after opposing the Democrats' border emergency supplemental appropriations bill.
"It's been almost two months since the Administration sounded the alarm about the crisis at our southwest border," said Granger. "Unfortunately, House Democrats have refused efforts made by Republicans to fully fund the needs of the agencies on the frontlines and have instead put forth an extremely partisan bill that will not appropriately address the problem. Not only does it fail to provide the necessary funds, it includes provisions that tie the hands of the Administration, restricting President Trump's ability to respond to the humanitarian crisis.
"Our agents, officers, volunteers, and nongovernmental organizations are dealing with overcrowding, summer heat, and migrants arriving with grave medical conditions. The more time we spend on partisan measures, the longer it will be before help arrives to those who desperately need it and the more dire the situation will become."
