Granger on Democrats’ First Appropriations Package

Press Release

WASHINGTON – Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) issued the following statement after opposing the Democrats' first appropriations package, H.R. 2740, which includes Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Defense, State and Foreign Operations, and Energy and Water Development. Seven Democrats joined all Republicans in opposing the measure with a final vote of 226 to 203.

"Unfortunately, this package does not provide the resources the President requested, likely triggering a veto," said Granger. "And there remains to be no consensus on a budget agreement for fiscal year 2020, which could lead to sequestration, resulting in devastating cuts to our military.

"In addition, this package has become a partisan vehicle, under funding defense priorities, over funding non-defense programs, carrying poison pills, and delaying action to address the crisis at our southern border. Plain and simple – this package is misguided and not in line with what the American people expect and deserve.

"I will continue to work with my colleagues to develop a reasonable budget caps agreement and to try to resolve these concerns in a final appropriations package."
