Press Release

WASHINGTON – Rep. Kay Granger (TX), Chairwoman-Elect of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (CA) election to serve as the 55th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“While it took longer than it should have, I am glad that Kevin McCarthy has been successful in his bid to become Speaker of the House. I am confident in his ability to lead the House and serve the American people, and I know Kevin will continue to fight for conservative priorities.

“As we start the 118th Congress, I look forward to working with Speaker McCarthy, the rest of our leadership, and other full committee chairs to cut wasteful spending while maintaining our national security priorities. There have been reports that House Republicans support cutting our national defense. Let me be clear -- this House Republican does not support that position."
