Granger Reiterates Concerns on Appropriations Bills

WASHINGTON – Today, the Full Committee met to consider two appropriations bills for fiscal year 2020 - the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Bill and the Legislative Branch Bill. Unfortunately, the funding in these bills is significantly higher than what is currently laid out in law, and many of the policy positions run counter to Republican priorities. 

Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) reiterated her concerns from last week's subcommittee markups, "To appropriately fund the federal government, we must start with a budget agreement that can pass both chambers and be signed into law. We need to develop bills written to more realistic funding levels that do not contain unnecessary policy riders."

Backing their commitment to conservative policies, Republican Members offered amendments to:

• Build a physical barrier along the southern border, allowing the Trump Administration to use military construction funds to address the humanitarian and security crisis; 
• Prevent the transfer of Guantanamo Bay prisoners to the United States and construct a new detention center at the military prison; 
• Restore damaged military facilities as a result of flooding in the Midwest; and 
• Reduce excessive spending contributing to the $22 trillion federal deficit.
