Granger Supports Trump’s Efforts to Secure the Border
WASHINGTON – Today, top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (TX12) issued the following statement after opposing efforts by Democrats to terminate President Trump’s February 15th national emergency declaration to secure the border.
“Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to travel to the southern border to see firsthand the situation we face. The President is correct, we have a crisis that must be addressed, both for the sake of the American people and those seeking entry.
“I am proud of the work my colleagues and I did to reach a bipartisan compromise on homeland security that included funding for a significant section of the border barrier. While this was a good down payment, significant additional funding is still needed to secure our border and to address the humanitarian and security crisis we face.
“The President has the authority to reallocate funds to address a national crisis through an emergency declaration. As Ranking Member of the Appropriations Committee, I will work with the White House to ensure that funds are reallocated appropriately and any use of previously appropriated funds is done in a way that does not impact military readiness.”
