Granger Voices Concerns on Energy and Water Bill

WASHINGTON – Today, the Full Committee met to consider the fiscal year 2020 Energy and Water Development appropriations bill. While the bill funds many bipartisan priorities, such as investments in water resources and energy infrastructure throughout the nation, Committee Republicans were unable to support the bill due to problematic provisions and the funding levels in the bill.

Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) said, "With hostile countries such as Russia increasing their nuclear capabilities, I am concerned that the Energy and Water bill does not prioritize funding for critical national security needs, specifically our nuclear weapons stockpile.

"While the bill includes resources to strengthen our energy and water infrastructure, it does so at unsustainable funding levels, and we do not yet have agreement by Republicans and Democrats in the House, the Senate, and the White House on a budget framework. I want to work with my colleagues as the bill moves through the process to address these concerns and develop a fiscally responsible plan that prioritizes our nation's security."
