Ironclad Support for Israel

President Biden has signaled he will defy the will of the People’s House and Congress by conditionally withholding weapons to Israel and asserted he will veto legislation ensuring critical deliveries are made. This is a betrayal of a great ally and signals that the White House will cower to its radical base and terrorist organizations like Hamas. Unlike the Administration, House Republicans will not waver in our ironclad support for Israel.

The Israel Security Assistance Support Act, announced this past weekend by Defense Subcommittee Chairman Ken Calvert (R-CA), Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK), State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), and Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee Chairman David Joyce (R-OH), curbs President Biden’s misguided efforts to withhold critical security resources appropriated in U.S. law.

This legislation reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense while compelling the delivery of defense weapons to Israel as they fight to protect themselves against radical terrorists.

Included in the legislation are several binding provisions, explicitly imposing strict timelines:

  • Prohibits funds to withhold delivery of defense articles and services from the U.S. to Israel.
  • Requires delivery of currently withheld defense articles and services within 15 days and withholds funds from the Offices of the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council until such deliveries are made.
  • Requires the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State to obligate all funds appropriated for Israel assistance within 30 days.
  • Requires a report on actions taken by the Executive Branch to withhold security assistance and therefore impede Israel’s ability to defend itself.

At a time of rising global threats, antisemitism, and campus demonstrations around the U.S. that have empowered anti-Jewish aggression, we can’t equivocate in our support or waver in our promise of “Never Again.” We must deliver the critical assistance Israel needs.
