Lewis Statement on Chairman Obey’s Retirement Announcement
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Appropriations Ranking Republican Jerry Lewis gave the following statement today on Chairman David Obey’s announcement that he is retiring from Congress:
“There are few people in this institution who have served their district with such a long and distinguished tenure as David Obey. While we may not always agree on policy or process, David has always been a determined and dedicated colleague and has proven to be a leader of historic proportions – both as Chairman and Ranking Member of the Appropriations Committee, and as the longest ever serving member of Congress from the great state of Wisconsin. I wish David and his wife Joan well as they begin a new chapter in their lives.”
