Lewis Statement on the failure of the troop funding provision in the
war supplemental
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Appropriations Ranking Republican Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.) has released the following statement on the failed passage of the troop funding provisions included in the war appropriations supplemental:
“Because of political theatrics, a disregard for the urgent need for funding for our troops, and a failure to adhere to the fair and proper democratic processes of the House, the Democrat leadership today forced the collapse of urgently needed funding legislation for our troops. It is gravely disappointing that this critical funding – which our servicemen and women have been waiting almost a year and half for – will be delayed yet again.
“What happened today is exactly why we must not rely on gimmicks and back-door schemes to pass bills, especially when they deal with our national security. We must now work immediately to pass a clean, responsible supplemental spending bill such as my bill H.R. 6026 – without political games, procedural tricks, or veto-bait – so that our troops will get the resources they need to do their jobs and protect the freedom of all Americans as quickly as possible.”
