Cole Remarks at FY25 Financial Services and General Government Bill Subcommittee Markup

June 5, 2024
Remarks

Thank you, Chairman Joyce, and thank you to Ranking Member Hoyer, Ranking Member DeLauro, and to all the members of the subcommittee for being here today as we continue our appropriations work.

The Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee is charged with funding agencies that impact every American, our economy, and the branches of the United States government.

Today’s bill protects taxpayers and responsibly addresses the needs of the nation. It reduces spending from the previous fiscal year, ensuring we meet funding levels prescribed in law.

It provides sensible cuts to federal financial and consumer protection agencies and prohibits funding for their overreaching, harmful, regulatory policies. Further the bill brings the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau into the appropriations and oversight process.

The legislation focuses agencies on their core missions. It prevents President Biden from imposing a radical progressive agenda on the American people, defunding DEI and climate initiatives and ensuring that proposed rules on these topics cannot be finalized. The continued security of our federal elections is also promoted by prohibiting non-citizens from voting.

Importantly, longstanding bipartisan pro-life protections are maintained.

I thank Chairman Joyce, Ranking Member Hoyer, and the majority and minority staff for their hard work, and I look forward to consideration of this bill today.

With that, I yield back.
