Cole Remarks at FY26 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Bill Full Committee Markup

June 10, 2025
Remarks

I would once again like to welcome everyone to our first full committee bill markup for Fiscal Year 2026. In highlighting the values we hold close as a nation, it's only fitting that the appropriations process begins with the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Bill.

The proposal before us is a testament to caring for those who’ve selflessly worn America’s uniform, their families, and the defenders who follow their path of service. We meet this mission not only in words of gratitude, but in policies that support them.

To our veterans, we are fully funding health care and benefits. They upheld their sacred oath to us—and now a grateful nation is keeping our promise to them. To our military families, we are investing in the quality-of-life issues that matter most — childcare, parental resources, housing, and infrastructure. Supporting the loved ones of those who defend us is essential to a strong and ready force.

And to our adversaries, we are enhancing America’s commitment to peace through strength by investing in base infrastructure key deterrence efforts in the Indo-Pacific. With this legislation, our obligations to our heroes, defense, and national security are upheld effectively and responsibly.

I thank Chairman Carter for leading legislation that honors our veterans, resources our troops, and reinforces our base posture. I’m grateful to him and all of the members and staff on both sides of the aisle for their hard work on this bill, and I urge all members of the committee to support it today. For their hard work, and I look forward to consideration of this bill today. With that, I yield back.
