Cole Remarks at FY27 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Bill Subcommittee Markup (As Prepared for Delivery)

May 21, 2026
Remarks

Thank you, Chairman Womack, Ranking Member Clyburn, Ranking Member DeLauro, and our subcommittee members. Today’s Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill is about building a stronger America. With a focus on modernizing infrastructure, improving travel, and supporting communities across the nation – this measure responsibly funds critical priorities while safeguarding taxpayer dollars.

With targeted investments in surface infrastructure and new budget authorities to rebuild critical systems – we are delivering resources to build the most modern, safe, and efficient transportation system in the world.

This will benefit all Americans and pay dividends for the nation. From the traveling public to freight haulers, improving national connectivity is critical to keeping America moving.

The safety of our skies and seas is also reinforced. The bill provides enhanced resources for FAA facilities and equipment to modernize air traffic control, hire needed controllers, and accelerate the deployment of new technologies. And on the maritime front, we provide strong support for programs and initiatives that support our supply chain and defense.

The bill empowers communities through local development, housing initiatives, and resources to help the vulnerable – making a difference where Americans live and work.

From our founding, America has always been a nation that builds. This bill continues that tradition by investing in the networks and infrastructure that power commerce, connect communities, and improve everyday life for families.

I appreciate the dedication of Chairman Womack, his work alongside Ranking Member Clyburn, and the majority and minority staff throughout this process. I look forward to advancing this bill, and the FY27 process. Thank you again, and I yield back.
