House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Chairman Mike Simpson gave the following statement on the House floor in support of H.R. 2028, the FY 2016 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill:

"It's my distinct honor to bring the Fiscal Year 2016 Energy and Water bill before you today.

"Before I go into the details, I'd like to recognize the hard work of Chairman Rogers and Ranking Member Lowey on this bill and the appropriations process.

"I would also like to thank my Ranking Member, Ms. Kaptur. I appreciate her help and it is a better bill because of her work on it.

"The bill provides $35.4 billion for the activities of the Department of Energy, Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and other agencies under our jurisdiction. This is $1.2 billion more than last year's funding level and $633 million below the request.

The House Appropriations Committee today approved the fiscal year 2016 Legislative Branch Appropriations bill. The bill will now head to the House floor for consideration. The bill provides annual funding for the offices of Members of the House of Representatives, the support agencies of Congress, security, services for visitors, and Capitol operations and maintenance.

House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers today released the following prepared statement in support of H.R. 2028, the FY 2016 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill:

"Mr. Speaker, I rise today in support of H.R. 2028, the Fiscal Year 2016 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill.

"This is a comprehensive, bipartisan bill that smartly funds our nation's energy programs and water infrastructure. In total, it provides $35.4 billion – $1.2 billion above last year's enacted level.

"This funding affects every district, every county, and every state in the country – facilitating American commerce, encouraging energy independence and innovation, and boosting our national security.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers today gave the following floor statement in support of H.R. 2029, the FY 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill:

"Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of H.R. 2029, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2016.

"This is the first bill of the process, and I am pleased that we are off to such an early start – the earliest start since 1974, continuing our good work from last year. I am optimistic that we will have a successful appropriations year – finishing on time and under regular order.

"We are beginning the year on the right foot – with a bipartisan bill that I believe we can all get behind.
