It is my honor to present to the Committee the fiscal year 2013 appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security.
Similar to our work over the past two fiscal years, this bill demonstrates how we can sufficiently fund vital security programs while also reducing discretionary spending overall.

The House Appropriations Committee today approved the fiscal year 2013 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill. The legislation totals $71.7 billion in discretionary funding, which is the same as the fiscal year 2012 level.

The House Appropriations Committee today approved the fiscal year 2013 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bill. The legislation strengthens America’s homeland security efforts while at the same time reducing government spending. The bill provides $39.1 billion in discretionary funding for DHS, a decrease of $484 million below last year’s level and a decrease of $393 million below the President’s request.

The U.S. House of Representatives today approved the fiscal year 2013 Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Appropriations bill (H.R. 5326), which funds the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and other related agencies for the next fiscal year.
