The House Appropriations Committee today approved the fiscal year 2017 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill. The legislation contains funding to house, train, and equip military personnel, provide housing and services to military families, and help maintain base infrastructure. The bill also funds veterans’ benefits and programs.

The House Appropriations Committee today released the fiscal year 2017 Agriculture Appropriations bill, which will be considered in subcommittee tomorrow. The proposed legislation funds important agricultural and food programs and services, including food and medical product safety, animal and plant health programs, rural development and farm services, marketplace oversight, and nutrition programs.

The House Appropriations Committee today released the fiscal year 2017 Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, which will be considered in subcommittee tomorrow. The legislation provides annual funding for national defense nuclear weapons activities, the Army Corps of Engineers, various programs under the Department of Energy (DOE), and other related agencies.

Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, along with State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee Chairwoman Kay Granger and Labor, Health and Human Services Subcommittee Chairman Tom Cole responded today to the Administration’s announcement that federal agencies will use existing funding for efforts to address the Zika epidemic. In February, the Chairs called on the Administration to tap into these existing funds to provide the quickest and most efficient response to the Zika outbreak.

The Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense has scheduled a hearing to take Member’s testimony on the Defense Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2017 on March 15 at 9 a.m. in HT-2, the Capitol. Each Member will have 5 minutes for oral remarks. The order of appearance and additional hearing details will be forwarded before the hearing.

House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee Chairwoman Kay Granger, and Labor, Health and Human Services Subcommittee Chairman Tom Cole sent a letter today to Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan, urging the Administration to pursue the use of current unobligated funds, including Ebola funds, to meet the immediate needs of response to the Zika outbreak.
