Lewis Statement on the Democrat’s Temporary Continuing Resolution (CR)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Appropriations Ranking Republican Jerry Lewis gave the following floor statement today regarding the Democrat leadership’s plan to temporarily extend funding for government operations into next week. This temporary Continuing Resolution (CR) is intended to allow the Senate additional time to pass the massive Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill.

FY 2009 Omnibus – Overdue, Over-budget, Undercover

One of the basic duties of Congress is to pass annual spending bills to fund the federal government. As part of this process, Congress is responsible for making tough budget decisions and providing critical oversight of government spending, while representing the interests of the taxpayers who foot the bill.

The FY 2009 Omnibus is the essence of the Democrat Majority’s failure to fulfill these basic responsibilities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House today passed the much-criticized “stimulus” legislation on a virtual party-line vote. The legislation contains a total of almost $800 billion, the majority of it to fund various new and existing government programs.
