House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers gave the following statement today at the Subcommittee's mark up of the Fiscal Year 2012 Homeland Security Appropriations Act:

"Thank you, Chairman Aderholt and Ranking Member Price. As we meet today to address the funding of the Department of Homeland Security, our nation faces more than one threat to its national security – a critical and historic deficit crisis, as well as continual terrorist threats.

House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security Chairman Robert Aderholt gave the following statement today on the Subcommittee's mark up of the Fiscal Year 2012 Homeland Security Appropriations Act:

"It is my honor to present to the Subcommittee the fiscal year 2012 appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security. This bill before us today, perhaps more than any other bill, exemplifies the difficult choices that need to be made in order to address our Nation's fiscal crisis.

The House Appropriations Committee today released its proposed fiscal year 2012 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bill. The legislation will be marked-up in subcommittee tomorrow, and is among the first Appropriations bills to move to subcommittee this year.

The House Appropriations Committee today released the initial fiscal year 2012 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill. The legislation will be marked-up in subcommittee tomorrow, and includes a total of $72.5 billion in discretionary funding, which is $615 million below last year's level and $1.2 billion below the President's fiscal year 2012 request.

House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers today announced the schedule for the completion of work on the 12 fiscal year 2012 Appropriations bills by the end of the fiscal year on September 30th. The plan includes marking up and approving each bill at both the Subcommittee and Full Committee levels in the next few months before the August recess.
