Appropriations Committee Ranking Member, Jerry Lewis (R-CA), today announced the Republican ranking members and members of the committee for the 110th Congress. The GOP Steering Committee unanimously approved the ranking member selections earlier today and formal approval by the GOP Conference is expected.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After months of proclamations of bipartisanship and increased transparency, the Democrat majority has fully abandoned these reasonable goals in order to bypass open conference negotiations on the “stimulus” legislation and jam the massive bill through Congress.

One of the major flaws of both the House and Senate stimulus packages is the lack of a clear description of how these funds will actually be spent by federal agencies. While Senate attempts to reduce the size and improve the package should be applauded, many of the pots of “stimulus” money in the bill still receive little or no specific legislative direction. This is yet another example of why the current stimulus plan should be scraped and the crafting of the plan should go back to square one.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House today considered and passed the House Democrats’ economic stimulus bill. The bill contains over $600 billion in spending for a wide swath of government programs – many of which will not spur the creation or the retention of a single job.
