Washington, D.C. – House Appropriations Committee Cardinals are united behind the mission to restore regular order and fund the government with 12 appropriations bills. Democrats shut the government down, halting any progress on full-year funding bills and injecting hyper-partisan obstruction into a previously bipartisan process. While Democrats make outlandish demands, bipartisan majorities in both chambers support a clean CR to reopen the government and continue negotiations on appropriations bills.

Washington, D.C. – After proudly advancing the FY26 Defense appropriations bill through committee with a 26 to 3 bipartisan vote, Senate Democrats executed a full retreat on the floor. They blocked the same legislation they once hailed for strengthening deterrence, investing in U.S. defense capabilities, and delivering critical resources for our troops.

Washington, D.C. – House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement regarding troops being paid on time today. The Democrat-driven shutdown sidelined Congress and the Article 1 progress that supported their pay, jeopardizing the livelihoods of service members and their families. With a nonpartisan funding extension blocked by Senate Democrats, President Trump acted to protect those who protect us.

Washington, D.C. – Mere days after Chairman Tom Cole warned that “the longer it goes on, the more damage will be done,” Senator Chuck Schumer took to the press to brag, “every day gets better for us.” For who, exactly? Certainly not for the service members and military families preparing to miss a paycheck, the air traffic controllers grappling with understaffed offices, the seniors who lost access to healthcare services, the small business owners now weighing layoffs after disrupted contracts, the communities facing delayed fire prevention work, or the mothers and infants whose WIC benefits were put at risk.

Washington, D.C. – As the Democrat-led shutdown stretches on to its seventh day, House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) recently joined Fox Report Weekend to highlight Senate Democrats’ repeated obstruction of a simple, nonpartisan solution to reopen the government. For the fifth time yesterday, Democrats voted to block the House-passed clean CR, ignoring bipartisan majorities in both chambers and the will of the American people.

Washington, D.C. – House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) joined C-SPAN’s Washington Journal this week to call out Democrats for their partisan obstruction as the Democrat-led government shutdown continues to inflict real harm on Americans. House Republicans have done the simple, responsible thing: passed a clean continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open, military paychecks flowing, and vital services running.

Washington, D.C. – A government shutdown might sound like abstract words in Washington—but across America, the impact is painfully real and will continue to get worse. The Democrat-led shutdown is halting paychecks for our troops and federal law enforcement, furloughing and risking the jobs of federal employees, jeopardizing flood insurance and healthcare services, and cutting off nutrition support for low-income mothers and children in need.

House Republicans acted to keep the government open weeks ago by passing a clean, nonpartisan funding extension. In contrast, Senate Democrats voted to shut it down and have since blocked every effort to reopen it for the American people.
