House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Kay Granger gave the following opening statement during the Committee's hearing on the Administration's Unaccompanied Children Program:
"I would like to thank Chairwoman Delauro and Ranking Member Cole, who also serves as the Vice Ranking Member for the Full Committee, for holding this hearing today.
"The treatment of children entering our country unaccompanied by an adult is one that concerns all of us.
"I have been engaged on this issue since 2014 when our country experienced an unprecedented surge in the number of unaccompanied children, mostly teenagers, coming across our southern border.
"At the time, I was Chair of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee, and the Speaker of the House asked me to lead a congressional task force to identify the root causes of the problem and recommend solutions.
WASHINGTON – Today, top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (TX12) issued the following statement after opposing efforts by Democrats to terminate President Trump's February 15th national emergency declaration to secure the border.
"Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to travel to the southern border to see firsthand the situation we face. The President is correct, we have a crisis that must be addressed, both for the sake of the American people and those seeking entry.
WASHINGTON – Today, the House voted to keep the government open by passing H.J. Res. 31. The bill – which passed the House 300-128 – will fund the Department of Homeland Security and includes the remaining appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2019.
Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (TX12), who was the lead House Republican on the Conference Committee and was instrumental in reaching a final agreement took to the floor before the vote to encourage her colleagues to vote for the measure.
