Thank you, Chairman Diaz-Balart. I’m so pleased to be back with the State-Foreign Operations Subcommittee today. I previously served on this Subcommittee with both distinguished Chairwoman Kay Granger and Chairman Hal Rogers. Experience tells us that the work done here is of critical importance to America’s national security.

Before we begin, I want to take a moment to welcome our new full committee Chairman, Tom Cole. He is a tremendous leader and cares deeply about the issues in the State-Foreign Operations bill.

Thank you, Chairman Carter, and thank you to Ranking Member Wasserman Schultz, Ranking Member DeLauro, and to all the members of the subcommittee for being here.

Good evening. I am proud to present the Fiscal Year 2025 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies appropriations bill today.

The Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government will come to order.

I’d like to welcome Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan. I appreciate your participation in today’s hearing to give members of the subcommittee the opportunity to discuss the Federal Trade Commission’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget request and conduct oversight over the Commission.

I’d like to welcome IRS Commissioner Werfel. This is the first time you have appeared before the subcommittee, and we look forward to discussing the IRS’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget submission.
