WASHINGTON – Today, Appropriations Committee Republicans sent a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris, the White House's lead in stemming the flow of migrants at our southwest border, requesting an update on the results of the 60-day pause and review of border wall construction contracts. The letter, led by the Republican Leader of the Committee, Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), insists that previously appropriated funds be used immediately to address the ongoing crisis.

WASHINGTON – Today, Appropriations Committee Republicans sent a letter to Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) requesting that the Committee hold hearings on the ongoing security and humanitarian crisis at our southern border as soon as possible. The letter, led by the Republican Leader of the Committee, Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), comes as illegal border crossings continue to surge and the Biden Administration denies there is a crisis.

Thank you, Madam Chair. I would like to begin by congratulating you for taking over the gavel of the Appropriations Committee as we begin our first official meeting of the 117th Congress.

I wish we were all in the same room today to hear the sound of that gavel, but I know you will continue to look for ways for us to meet in person.

Madam Chair, I want to say a few words about you personally. You have served with distinction on Appropriations for many years, and you have already shown you are going to hit the ground running.

WASHINGTON – Today, Appropriations Committee Republican Leader Kay Granger (R-TX) and Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) led a briefing on the security surrounding the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. As the Committee responsible for funding the agencies charged with protecting the Capitol Building and keeping Members of Congress and staff safe, it is critical that Appropriators investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent events of January 6th to prepare for and prevent future attacks. Today's briefing was the first of many actions the Committee will take.
