WASHINGTON – Rep. Kay Granger (TX), Chairwoman-Elect of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (CA) election to serve as the 55th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"While it took longer than it should have, I am glad that Kevin McCarthy has been successful in his bid to become Speaker of the House. I am confident in his ability to lead the House and serve the American people, and I know Kevin will continue to fight for conservative priorities.

The Appropriations Committee wrapped up full committee markups for the fiscal year 2023 this week. Democrats supported a number of common-sense Republican amendments. Here are a few of the accepted changes to the bills that passed by voice votes:

WASHINGTON – Today, the full committee met to consider the fiscal year 2023 bills for the subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development.


June 23, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee and the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee considered their appropriations bills for fiscal year 2023. The measures were reported out to the full committee with concerns raised by Republicans.

Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX), the lead Republican for the Appropriations Committee, said of the measures, "It is irresponsible to increase funding for the same social programs that received trillions of dollars over the last year.

WASHINGTON – Today, the full committee met to consider the fiscal year 2023 subcommittee spending levels, known as "302(b)" allocations. The appropriations bills for the subcommittees on Defense and Legislative Branch were also considered by the full committee.

Subcommittee Ranking Member Tom Cole (R-OK) and Pro-Life Caucus Co-Chair Dr. Andy Harris (R-MD) led a press conference on the Democrats' plan to strip longstanding, bipartisan protections against taxpayer-funded abortions after they rejected efforts by Committee Republicans to reinstate the Hyde and Weldon Amendments during the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education FY22 full committee markup.

WASHINGTON – Today, the full committee met to consider the fiscal year 2022 appropriations bills for the subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Commerce, Justice, and Science. Committee Republicans were unable to support the bills due to the total spending level and controversial policy provisions that are in the bills.

WASHINGTON – Today, Appropriations Committee Republicans sent a letter to Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) urging the Majority to keep all existing pro-life protections in the fiscal year 2022 appropriations bills. The letter, led by the Republican Leader of the Committee, Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), comes as the Biden Administration prepares the discretionary budget request for FY22 and the Committee starts the annual appropriations process.
