WASHINGTON – Rep. Kay Granger (TX), Chairwoman-Elect of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (CA) election to serve as the 55th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"While it took longer than it should have, I am glad that Kevin McCarthy has been successful in his bid to become Speaker of the House. I am confident in his ability to lead the House and serve the American people, and I know Kevin will continue to fight for conservative priorities.

In an effort to push back on the Democrats' partisan proposals, Republican Committee Members offered many common-sense amendments. WASHINGTON – Today, the Homeland Security Subcommittee and Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee met to consider their fiscal year 2023 appropriations bills. The measures were reported out to the full committee with concerns raised by Republicans.

Due to this administration's open border policies, illegal crossings have skyrocketed. A record number of migrants crossed the border illegally last year, and this year is set to be no different. On average, Border Patrol Agents encounter 7,000 individuals a day. If President Biden is successful in lifting Title 42 authority, crossings are expected to more than double with the daily rate reaching upwards of 18,000 encounters, per the Department of Homeland Security.

WASHINGTON – Today, Appropriations Committee Republicans sent a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris, the White House's lead in stemming the flow of migrants at our southwest border, requesting an update on the results of the 60-day pause and review of border wall construction contracts. The letter, led by the Republican Leader of the Committee, Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), insists that previously appropriated funds be used immediately to address the ongoing crisis.
