It is the result of the great sacrifice of the American people. It came about not only because of our armed might, which served to defeat the fascist powers during World War II, but also because of America’s clear commitment to the values of freedom and democracy, not only for ourselves, but for all of humanity.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Appropriations Committee met to consider the Fiscal Year 2025 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act. The measure was approved by the Committee with a vote of 31 to 26.

Our collective security and the defense of democracy aren’t protected by hope—but by leadership and sustained vigilance. I’d like to welcome everyone to today’s subcommittee markup of the fiscal year 2025 appropriations bill for the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs. I want to thank Chairman Cole for getting the Appropriations Committee off to a great start. This is an aggressive schedule, but it is critical we get our work done, so thank you for your leadership.
