Remarks

I would like to thank Chairman Carr for being here today and for his leadership at the FCC. The Federal Communications Commission was created for the purpose of expanding access to radio, television, and other communication services to all Americans.

Methods of communication have changed a lot since the FCC was founded more than 90 years ago. Decades of technological advancements have made long-distance communications much more affordable. In 2023 the total number of wireless connections in the United States reached almost 558 million, or more than 1.6 connections per American. The FCC continues to play an important role in expanding access to new technologies and making communication services affordable for all Americans.

Remarks

I would like to thank both Judge Saint Eve and Judge Conrad for being here today and for their service to our nation. The two of you combined represent over 60 years of federal civil service, and we are grateful for your time. A special congratulations to you, Judge Conrad, on your recent retirement from District Court work in North Carolina.

As a former prosecutor, I know the American judicial system is the gold-standard for fair, equal, and impartial treatment under the law. It is a critical part of our democracy and has been since our nation’s founding almost 250 years ago. It is incumbent upon us to ensure that our partner branches of government have the tools they need to execute the duties of their office.

I would like to thank Secretary Bessent for being here today and for his leadership and steady hand over the last several months.

We are living in an increasingly complex world with no shortage of issues.  Whether it be taxes or tariffs, rightsizing regulation, or creating a regulatory framework for digital assets, the Department of the Treasury’s role is fundamental to their resolution. If we think about it, this is why the Department of the Treasury was created. The Department is central to maintaining a strong economy, creating jobs, and promoting economic growth both here and abroad.
